THE WILLIAMSBURG WINERY STORY:
In 1983, Patrick Duffeler purchased an abandoned farm with 300 acres overlooking College Creek and Pate’s Creek. From centuries old buildings and beautiful land that spanned the property, our now Wessex Hundred Farm came to life. In 1985, our first Chardonnay grapes were planted and there begins the history of our storied Williamsburg Winery.
After our first harvest in 1987, the vineyard operation expansion began. Essential buildings and equipment were put in place, including construction of our main winery building, delivery of our first stainless steel tanks, and most importantly the installation of power lines to reach the property. The years to follow brought many delicious varietals, expanding on the collection of Williamsburg Winery wines. In 1989, we won our first Governor’s Cup with the Acte 12 of 1619 Chardonnay and we have continued to earn many awards among cases and competitions throughout Virginia and the region.
Today, the winery is home to a bustling Susan Constant tasting room with award-winning wines, the Gabriel Archer Tavern with coastal-inspired cuisine, and Wedmore Place with decor reminiscent of a European Inn. “Enjoy Life” is more than just a saying on every one of our corks. We enjoy the good wine we make here, the food so carefully sourced and prepared, the restoration that comes from a night in our hotel, and the peace that a walk through our woods inspires - a reminder that life’s simplest pleasures offer some of the largest rewards.

Meet the winemaker:
Stacey Lightfoot
Stacey Lightfoot, An alumna of Stockton College with a B.S. in environmental studies and a minor in Chemistry, Stacey embarked on her career in water testing labs before joining Williamsburg Winery just before the 2006 harvest season. With her future husband, they vacationed often to Colonial Williamsburg and would visit the winery several times. One day, while visiting a small winery in Minitola, NJ, they asked for a tour only to be hosted by the winemaker, who learned of Stacey’s vocation and practically offered her a job. When they decided to make Williamsburg our forever home, Stacey applied for a job at the Williamsburg Winery right before the 2006 harvest season began, thinking it would be a fun place to work. The team was quick to hire her! With an impressive 17-year tenure, Stacey extends her gratitude for the invaluable partnership, friendship, and mentorship she has received. She eagerly anticipates continuing the legacy by creating exquisite wines for the enjoyment of all.
